Projektbeskrivning

Child Culture Design Studio Lekkontoret, designed and built a Lekstuga for heritage site, Gathenhielmska Huset alongside wood designer Esbjörn Grip and a group of participating children. The Lekstuga was designed through a participatory design process during summer 2021, where a group of children held exploratory prototyping workshops at the Gathenhielmska heritage site. The Lekstuga project aimed to showcase local craftsmanship, increase interest in cultural heritage and make the public garden more accessible for children & families. Through this project we also hope to give children a meaningful opportunity to practice participation and shape their local environment. The primary target audience has been children aged 4 - 6 yrs. We selected this age-group for two reasons. Firstly, they represent the lekstuga’s intended user age-group and therefore provided useful observations & contributions during the design process. Secondly, children below reading age are not well-represented or catered for in cultural institutions, or in the urban space more broadly. The Lekstuga build was funded by Göteborgs Slöjdföreningen, HIGAB and En Snabb Slant. KulturUngdom has assisted in funding for the Lekstuga Opening exhibition, which was held at Gathenhielmska on the 12th of February 2022. The opening was a showcase of both the finished Lekstuga and an exhibition of ceramic objects made by 12 children during a series of ceramic workshops with ceramicist Johanna Dahl and Lekkontoret designers.
